The Ultimate Test: Pressure from the First Tee
Unlike typical courses that offer a gentle start, Dai Lai immediately applies pressure. Due to the encompassing lake terrain and strategically placed "blind holes," the very first tee shot requires the golfer to carry a water hazard spanning 140–160 yards.
- A "hooked" ball that rolls across the fairway is virtually un-saveable, resulting in a one-stroke penalty.
- A "sliced" ball runs a high risk of finding the water on the right, necessitating the next shot to cross another water hazard of 160 yards.
- As golfers often say about the 1st hole: "It's either a Par, or it's a 'Wasted' Par" (implying a costly scramble).
The course designers intentionally crafted holes ranging from difficult to extremely difficult, not only in terms of distance but also through the abundance of traps surrounding the green: Sand bunkers, water hazards extending right up to the green, and Out-of-Bounds (OOB) lurking behind and to the right. Golfers face immense pressure with water on one side and the OOB wall on the other. Players must maintain extreme focus and employ a sound strategy to achieve their desired results.
